Elmira High School’s track and field team have gotten off to a great start after the Elmira Relays kicked off the season on March 21.

The boys placed second and the girls placed third in the overall team placings at the Relays.

Elmira teams placed first in the following events at the Elmira Relays.

  •  Girls high jump: Rylee Rice, Lillimae Brumble and Petra Archer
  •  Girls 4x100m throwers relay: Lindsey Cordell, Harley Esty, Naomi Pew and Penelope Cordon
  •  Boys javelin: Jacob Bradley, Marvin Hambrick and Spencer Stone
  •  Boys 4x100m throwers relay: Bryce Ruby, Mason Shindruk, Marvin Hambrick and Orin Taylor

This year’s distance team is coached by Emilee Brink, with strong leadership coming from seniors Owen Booth and Jude Carman.

Carman hopes to make the most of his final season at EHS.

“I just want to improve on my times from last year and hopefully get a higher placement at state,” Carman told Falcon News.

The throwers have a new head coach in Lilliana Morales, with assistant coaching coming from Tessa Slager and Ryan Chambers.

Senior thrower Zane Clemmer hopes to make improvements to his scores in his final season.

“I’m hoping to get around 47 for shot this year, and overall just want to make it to state,” the senior said.

Coach Abby Archer is returning for another season of jumps at Elmira High School, with new Coach Kyle Humphery helping with the pole vault.

Junior Rylee Rice is hoping to have a strong showing after her great sophomore season.

“I’m hoping to break my current PR for high jump,” Rice said. “It would be really nice to improve on my placing at state from last year,”

This year, the sprint team will have a brand new coach in Brandon Gailey, and will rely on a lot of leadership from the upperclassmen.

“I think the sprinters as a whole did really well last season,” senior Kyler Colwell told Falcon News. “I just want to improve on what I did last season so we can uphold that.”

The team has competed at two meets since the Elmira Relays. The boys placed 4th and girls placed 3rd at Willamette on April 2. The team also competed at Siuslaw April 9.
