Elmira High School sophomore Marley Arient’s is influenced by her great grandma, who is her favorite artist.
“I love my great grandma and she’s really good at [art],” Arient says.
Arient has been creating art since she was little and was taught by her great grandma.
She says she continues to create art because she is looking ahead to the future.
“I want to pursue art in the future for part of my profession,” Arient told Falcon News.
Art teacher Tom Edmundson is very impressed by Arient’s artwork.
“As the art teacher it was kind of awesome. As a ninth-grade student last year, her skills were mad,” Edmundson told Falcon News.
Arient has demonstrated advanced skill to the art teacher in many ways,
“She’s really good at drawing. She can draw realistically, she has style, she knows how to handle color,” he said. “I was just impressed from the start.”
The sophomore has already developed her own unique style that comes out in her work.
“She’s not searching for how she wants her art to be,” Edmundson said. “She can go from drawing very realistic, but she also has something that’s very Marley-esque so … she already has a style that’s really cool and not usual … it’s unique.”
Arient’s favorite medium is drawing.
“I feel like I can do lots of different things with them and if I want to start over it’s easy for me to erase and try again,” she says. “It’s just easier for me to learn from the mistakes I made and be able to restart on the same sheet of paper.”
Her advice to other artists is to “keep practicing.”
When she isn’t creating art, Arient enjoys fashion and putting together outfits.
