Students in Mrs. Nelson’s Writing 121 class competed in the annual “If I Were Mayor…” local competition.
Students created digital media presentations to talk about what they would do to improve the Fern Ridge community if they were mayor.
The video presentations were sent to Veneta mayor Keith Weiss who would pick the top three to award prizes to.
Second and third places were won by juniors JT Myers and Evan Booth, respectively, and awarded $25 gift cards. First place junior Mele Turtura won a $50 gift card.
Turtura will now be entered in the state-wide contest, and the top student of each age range in the state will have lunch at the Running Y Resort in Klamath Falls from July 18-20.
First place at the state-wide contest for high-schoolers will be awarded $500, second $300 and third $100.
