Elmira High School’s registrar, Angela Baker, has been chosen for this month’s section of Staff Spotlight. She sat down with Falcon News for an interview.
Question: What is one quote that you live by?
Answer: “Don’t put off tomorrow what you can’t do today.”
Q: What are your roles at EHS and what are your responsibilities?
A: “My official title is Registrar of EHS. I enroll students, request and process student records, plan the master schedule, forecast and schedule all students, process grades, GPA and graduation requirements. I enter and process transcripts, handle the graduation ceremony and graduation program, and order diplomas. I am also an administrator for our student information system and do what I can to help students and staff.”
Q: Do you participate in any extracurricular activities at EHS?
A: “I attend activities when I can and the graduation ceremony is always on my list.”
Q: What is your favorite part about EHS?
A: “Working with the fabulous staff and student body.”
Q: What is your favorite memory of your time here at Elmira?
A: “I have several favorite memories. However, the last day of school each year is a highlight. Before the auxiliary gym was built, there was a courtyard with the grass and benches and on the last day of school at the final bell, all of the students would run, jump around and scream excitedly through the courtyard to start a fun summer. The courtyard is no longer there, but the last day is always full of excitement for students and the energy is contagious and always makes me smile.”
Q: What is one piece of advice you wish you could give to all the students at Elmira?
A: “Don’t underestimate your capabilities. Stand tall, be proud, and do your best and the rest will fall in place.”
Q: What high school and college did you graduate from?
A: “I graduated from Toledo High School and Lane Community College.”
Q: What does your family life look like?
A: “My family life consists of my husband and two dogs. We take our RV all over the state, ride motorcycles, fish, hike, and enjoy the outdoors.”
Q: What are some hobbies you do in your spare time?
A: “Camp, hike, read, cook, garden, walk and play with my dogs, and visit with friends.”
Q: Is there anything else you would like us to add?
A: “I have worked for the district and Elmira High school for 20 years. Ten years were as the EHS secretary and ten as the registrar.”
