Elmira Falcons hosted the South Umpqua Lancers at home on Tuesday. The boys varsity got off to a hot start, having a comfortable lead going into the second half at 38-27. Unfortunately, the Falcons were unable to maintain the lead throughout the game, losing 44-58.
The Lancers snapped the team’s two-game winning streak after placing first in the Rogue River Classic tournament.
“This team has so much potential to win,” head coach Trevor Daniels said. “We just have a hard time closing games.”
Coach Daniels added to his statement, saying that the team needs to be more mentally prepared before—and during—the game.
Senior Quinton Buckland reflects on his first varsity game after being out for the start of the season.
“It was great to be back on the court,” he said. “It sucks that we lost in a game we should’ve won, but we’re gonna come out better on Friday.
Looking ahead to Friday’s matchup with Scio, Buckland added, “It’s a bad day to be a Logger.”
The girls varsity got off to a fast start and never looked back. They pushed the ball in transition and got easy buckets from their skilled ball movement.
The girls dominated the first three quarters of the game and, going into the fourth quarter, showed no sign of slowing down. The Falcons won 52-22.
The girls came away with an impressive amount of steals at 25, compared to the Lancers 10.
