Jeremy Yarbro joined Elmira High School this year as the new physical science teacher. He fills in for Debra St. Hilaire, who is battling cancer.
Yarbro, who is from Eugene, has taught in Eastern Oregon, Ontario, Napa, Oregon Charter Academy (an online school), Thurston, and in Japan. He says Elmira is the smallest community where he has worked.
“I like it here and it has been a good community,” Yarbro told Falcon News. “There are a lot of things for everybody to do and feel a part of the school.”
The science teacher has 18 years of experience and has also taught the English language and English language arts.
“After teaching English for one year in Japan,” Yarbro said, “it was a blast and that’s how I fell in love with teaching.”
Yarbro said he likes being organized, diving deep into his job or whatever he is working on, and he admits he can be a perfectionist at times.
His interests are reading, hiking, strategy board games, camping and cooking.
“I always loved science, sci-fi, fantasy books, and I read physics books in high school for fun,” he said.
Yarbro graduated in 1999 from Sheldon High School in Eugene. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Oklahoma, then attended the University of Oregon to get his master’s degree in education.
Yarbro said his students have been great and are working hard, and that the staff also has been great.
“There’s been some good kids working hard,” Yarbro said. “I’m enjoying my time here.”
