Junior Jude Carman placed 4th and qualified for State after competing at Cross Country Districts in Lebanon Oct. 26.
The Falcon runners raced a standard 5 kilometer course.
Carman finished with a new personal record of 17:14, improving by 40 seconds .
Carman was projected to place 6th or 7th going into the race, but finished with 4th.
“It was unexpected,” Carman shared.
He is proud of his performance and how he competed.
“It felt nice that I was able to raise to that high of a level of competition,” Carman told Falcon News. “It feels good to see the hard work pay off.”
The State race will be at Lane Community College on Saturday and Carman will be competing in the 3A race at 11:10.
There will be a $6 admission fee for students and $12 for adults. Attendees can order tickets online before the race with this link. Some tickets will be available for sale on site with cash only.
Carman is excited to finally be making the state competition.
“I’ve never done it before,” he said. “It’s a little bit crazy to think about.”
“It’s not overwhelming, but it is intense,” Carman continued.
Other Falcon runners set new personal records at Districts as well.
Senior Jude Spencer finished with 20:41. Sophomores Jake VanDamme and Hannah Yaskovic finished with 18:38 and 25:52, respectively. Ninth-grader Thad Mason finished with 18:48.
Juniors JT Myers and William Uphold set new season records, but not their personal best. Myers finished with 24:01 and Uphold finished with 21:28.
Carman finished by saying he is thankful for the cross country team.
“It was a motivating team to be on,” he said. “Everyone was great.”
