The Elmira High School volleyball team played a great game Tuesday, but was unable to come out with the win against Siuslaw after losing all three sets.
Leading the Falcons in aces was senior Lillian Ossowski with seven. Juniors Hannah Humphrey and Jayden Breaux each had one.
Breaux led the team with four kills. Junior Morgan Hansen scored three, senior Kelsey Hemple had one and sophomore Caydence Farrar had one.
Ossowski had six assists, Breaux had two and Humphrey had one.
Leading in digs was junior Josey Robbins with seven. Ninth-grader Natalia Shoemaker had five, Breaux had three, and Ossowski, Humphrey and junior Adalyne Henson all had one.
When asked about the game, head coach Tessa Slager pointed to one area needing improvement.
“We had a lot of miscommunication, non-communication,” Slager said. “Other than that, they played very well.”
Ossowski agreed with the head coach, drawing attention to the need for better communication.
“We are talking off the court, but when we were on the court we were really quiet,” she said. “So there was a lot of miscommunication.”
The team manager, senior Josiah Hartzell, told Falcon News: “I think we had fun and we played a good game.”
The Falcons had an active student section Tuesday night, and they look forward to seeing that at more matches this season.
The Falcons battled hard against Harrisburg in an away game on Thursday but lost in five sets, 2-3.
The team will hit the road again Tuesday for a match at Creswell.
The next home game will be Oct. 17 against Harrisburg, with junior varsity starting at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6:30 p.m.
