Elmira High School seniors Luke Wolgamott and Jacob Janeczko recently signed on to play sports at the college level.
Wolgamott has committed to join the football and wrestling teams at Pacific University, a Division 3 school in Forest Grove. He has received about $120,000 in scholarships.
Janeczko has committed to play football for Western Oregon University, a Division 2 school.
Wolgamott said he is especially excited to be playing football for Pacific after sustaining his second ACL injury last June and missing his senior season.
“They had wanted me and were talking to me since I was a sophomore. They kept talking to me through my injury, said it was fine and were still interested in me,” he said.
Wolgamott said he will move onto campus on Aug. 9 and begin football practices later that day.
During wrestling season, he plans to complete in the 197 weight class.
“I’m excited. It will be fun,” he said. “I hope to be able to start right away because they don’t have anyone else, at least right now, at 197.”
Janeczko said he was considering a couple of other colleges but ultimately chose Western, where he will play on the offensive line, “because I just like the coaches and it was close to home.”
He will red-shirt his first year, meaning he won’t play until his sophomore year.
Other seniors who plan to compete at the college level include Ashlyn Turnbo in pole vault at George Fox University, Tori Kuhlmann in softball at Clark College and Alyssa Johnson will run for Southwestern Oregon Community College.
