The annual Veneta Light Parade will take place for the 19th year at 7 p.m. next Thursday, Dec. 8.
The parade is organized by the Veneta-Fern Ridge Chamber of Commerce.
“Enjoy the creatively decorated firetrucks, cars, floats and approximately 40 other brightly adorned vehicles as they wind through downtown,” the Chamber of Commerce website states.
In previous years, Elmira High School also has contributed floats. With the help of Mr. Guldager in 2021, EHS produced a float for each grade. The floats were “Nightmare Before Christmas” for the ninth-graders, “Peanuts Christmas” for the sophomores, “Winter Forest” for the juniors and “Gingerbread House/Candyland” for the seniors.
This year, EHS, through students in the Leadership class, are doing a float. The theme for this float is “Winter Royalty.”
The staging for the parade is on Eight Street to Jack Kelly Drive westbound, with a right on Territorial Highway, a right on Hunter Avenue, a left on Second Street, left on West Broadway, and it ends on Eight Street and Jack Kelley Drive.
There is also judging criteria for the parade. The parade will line up at 6 p.m. on Jack Kelly Drive and judging will begin at the same time. The total amount of points you can get is 40. The criteria is theme, originality, workmanship/lighting/music, and overall effect/eye appeal. All of these are worth a maximum of 10 points.
