The Elmira Falcon football team had an amazing season, filled with much improvement from last year.
The year was filled with many extraordinary plays and a lot of effort. Unfortunately, like every great season, it has to come to an end.
The Falcons had high expectations going into the season and they did not disappoint. Members of Falcons News went out to interview a select number of seniors on their thoughts on the season and what the future of the Falcon football team looks like.
Senior Isaiah Wilson – varsity wide receiver/cornerback (#6)
Question: What are your thoughts on your senior season?
Answer: “I think that we should have won all our games.”
Q: Do you think there is potential for the team after you leave?
A: “Potential is okay.”
Q: What’s the greatest strengths of the football team?
A: “Our greatest strength for the team is our speed.”
Isaiah Wilson is a significant athlete with tons of raw talent and a great work ethic. Isaiah offers so much great attributes to the team from a great wide receiver, to an immensely talented cornerback. Isaiah will be a huge loss to the athletic program, but he’s been a great role model to young athletes.
Senior Enrico Cervantez – varsity cornerback (#9)
Q: What’s your greatest accomplishment as a football player?
A: “My greatest accomplishment is being a starting cornerback on varsity.”
Q: How has football impacted your life
A: “Football has impacted my life by making high school better.”
Cervantez has had a good defensive season at the corner position. He helped lead the defense with 2 interceptions during the season. Enrico has been a great addition to the secondary and will definitely be missed going into next season.
Senior Noah Sawyer – varsity weak/strong safety (#3)
Q: What’s your greatest accomplishment as a football player?
A: “My greatest accomplishment was when I got a 60 yard rushing touchdown.”
Q: How has football impacted your life?
A: “Football has impacted my life by taking a lot of free time.”
Sawyer has had an eventful season playing JV, and swinging for varsity. He had a fumble recovery in the winning game against Pleasant Hill in week 3.
Senior Jacob Janeczko – varsity left tackle/defensive lineman (#66)
Q: What are your thoughts on your senior season?
A: “This season has been okay, kind of upset we won’t go to the playoffs.”
Q: What’s your greatest accomplishment in football?
A: “My greatest accomplishment was getting 2 shutout games.”
Q: Do you think there is potential for the team after you leave?
A: “Potential is a yes.”
Q: What’s your greatest strength?
A: “Our strength is the ability to get better.”
Q: How has football impacted your life?
A: “Football gave me a reason to work.”
Janeczko’s last season has been nearly flawless. He’s done a great job protecting varsity quarterback junior Quinton Buckland’s blind side and making it very difficult for any defensive end to get around him. Losing him will be tough for the team, but he’s been a great role model to upcoming linemen.
