An assembly on Thursday decided the future Associated Student Body of Elmira High School. Candidates gave speeches and were voted on by all except the senior class.

Junior Alyssa Johnson was elected president after competing for the position against fellow juniors Jack Reichenberger and Michael Brown, as well as sophomore Tristam Woods.

Junior Lucy Mitchem was elected over junior Wayde Walton for the position of vice president. Junior Andrew Johnson ran unopposed to be elected to the position of treasurer.

There were no students who ran for the positions of secretary or publicity manager. Those positions are still left unfilled.

Student Council Leadership is split into two parts, Associated Student Body (ASB) and class representatives. The ASB officers represent the whole school and form the Executive Council, which leads the Student Council. Meanwhile, a set of class officers sit on the Student Council to represent each class individually.

Elections for class officers will be held Thursday, June 2. Applications for class representative positions are due Friday, May 20.

Class officer positions are president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. The responsibilities of these positions can be found in the application packet.

Students interested in becoming a class representative must fill out an application that can be picked up in the front office. Completed applications can be emailed to Mandy Storey at mstorey@fernridge.k12.or.us or turned in to the front office.

Those who were not elected to ASB or as a class officer can run again to fill an empty position by a special election held in the fall. Students may also remain in the course as a member-at-large. Members in that position will assist other class officers with duties and responsibilities.
