Elmira High School students will be participating in the 18th annual Veneta Light Parade on Thursday.
Each class will enter a festive float, which will be among about 40 festively decorated vehicles expected to participate in the parade. The parade is being presented by the Veneta-Fern Ridge Chamber of Commerce and will roll through downtown Veneta.
Students spent a few weeks decorating the floats leading up to the parade, with the efforts organized by EHS Leadership and a theme for each class. The float theme is “Nightmare Before Christmas” for the ninth-grade class, “Peanuts Christmas” for the sophomores, “Winter Forest” for the juniors and “Gingerbread House/Candyland” for the seniors.
All floats must arrive at the west end of Jack Kelly Drive by 6 p.m. Large groups are asked to meet and load their floats in the Veneta Elementary School parking lot before moving to the stage. Judging of the floats will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the parade at 7 p.m.
The parade will begin on Eighth Street, head westbound on Jack Kelly Drive, turn right on Territorial Highway, turn right on McCutcheon Avenue, turn right on Second Street and turn left on West Broadway before ending on Eighth Street.
