Interact Club Collecting Clothing for Those in Need

The EHS Interact Club has put together a clothing drive for those in need and you can donate items until this Friday.

Donations of clean coats, diapers in size three or above, gloves, leggings, socks and basically any type of clean clothing are being collected in bins in the school foyer, near the front office. The clothing will go to those in need throughout the community, including safe sites and shelters for homeless families and abused women and children.

The number of people in need of clothes and personal care items, such as soap and feminine hygiene products, has increased since COVID-19 because people have lost their jobs or are unable to work. It’s important to help those in the community who need it the most, and right now, there are a lot of people who need help. The Interact Club has decided to reach out.

There are more than 14,000 people who are homeless in Oregon on any given day. Around 3,245 people experience homelessness in Lane County alone, and in 2019, Eugene had the highest rates of homelessness in the entire country.

Donations will be taken until this Friday, Nov. 5, and will be delivered on Saturday, Nov. 13. As a reward, the class that donates the most clothing will get ice cream during lunch next Tuesday.

For people interested in helping in more ways, there is a Give One Take One truck owned by Pastor Kelly Boyd. Here is a link to Channel 16 for more information on the GOTO truck, https://nbc16.com/news/local/the-goto-truck-is-a-go-to-for-many-people-in-need.
