Elmira High School’s cross-country team continues to rack up solid performances this season.
On Oct. 14, the Falcons competed in the Days Creek Relays meet at Days Creek Charter School. They earned first place in both the girls and boys relays, with all runners contributing.
Jude Carman ran the best split for Elmira’s relay team and the second-best split out of all the boys in the meet, running 11:49. Shark Zhao followed that time with 11:59.
In the girls relay, Alyssa Johnson ran the best time out of all the girls with a split time of 12:30. Cosette Fowler placed eighth, running a 14:23 split, followed by a 14:32 run from Olivia Fatooh. Overall, the Elmira cross-country team ran very strong relay races.
This past week, the Falcons traveled to Roseburg to compete in the Umpqua Invite. The girls race began at 3:30 p.m. followed by the boys at 4 p.m. The team finished with another strong showing.
All of the girls broke their personal records. Johnson broke hers with a time a 19:58, Fatooh broke ran a 23:54 race, and Fowler achieved a PR with 24:25.
The boys also achieved personal records. Jude finished at 18:53, Zhao ran a solid 18:57 and Jacob King-Todd got his PR by running a 26:26.
”The Umpqua Invite went great,” Fatooh said. “Everyone on our team finished in amazing times, and it was a lot of fun!”
The Falcons’ next meet and possibly their last meet of the season will be districts on Thursday, Oct. 28 at Lane Community College. The first race begins at noon, starting with the girls 5,000m race. The boys will start their 5,000m race at 1:30 p.m.
