The Elmira High School leadership class has announced the creation of a Publicity Department to help promote events and inform students about key updates.
During a recent Student Council meeting, ASB President Clyde Oglesby presented the group with a bill that would form a Publicity Department to be run by the publicity manager, currently junior Ashlyn Turnbo.
The responsibilities of the department will be to handle the news that leadership needs to present to the student body along with handling whatever leadership deems necessary for them to market or present. The department also will be responsible for corresponding with EHS Falcon News to present updates about events and other news.
In the event that Turnbo is absent, a Publicity Department deputy would take over any duties that are active, on a temporary basis. Turnbo also will handle any social media accounts that are active to represent the school and provide information about upcoming events, such as spirit days, dances and other events regarding the student body.
The leadership class is proud to welcome the department to the student council and hopes students are as well.
In other news, there have been changes in the junior class officers, and the student body recently approved an updated constitution.
Junior Class Officers
The resignation of junior class president Caleb Taubr left a vacancy. Following student council rules, Lucy Mitchem, formerly the class vice president, took over Taubr’s position. In addition, Cody Eutsler took over the vice president position.
Constitution Changes
On Nov. 18, class meetings were held to vote on the constitution and provide some information to the student body about upcoming events. The votes were counted right after the meetings, and the constitutional changes were approved.
The approval of the constitution is important for the leadership class as they worked hard to provide an up-to-date constitution that was best fit to help the student body.
Anyone with questions about the constitution is welcome to contact leadership adviser Jon Guldager or Oglesby. Students are also welcome to pop into leadership meetings during seventh period to provide public comment. The leadership classroom is in the senior hallway next to the vending machine.
