Halloween costume contests have been around for years, and last Friday, Elmira High School held one … and it was awesome! Everywhere you looked you could see a new costume.
The costume contest was held at the beginning of third period. It was originally supposed to be in the courtyard, but because of the weather it was held in the main gym.
There were four categories: most creative costume, scariest costume, funniest costume and best group costume. The judges were Principal Rick Gardner, Assistant Principal Ricci Huling and leadership advister/CTE coordinator Jon Guldager.
The winner in the most creative costume category was junior Brody Bothel, wearing a Mr. Edmundson look-alike costume. The runners-up in that category were junior Nio Turtura dressed as Albert Einstein and ninth-grader Lilly Turner as an elf.
The winner in the scariest costume category was ninth-grader Kaleigah Smith, dressed as a freaky clown. The runners-up were ninth-grader Madison Ginter with a plague doctor costume and junior Noah Canaday as Michael Myers.
The winner in the funniest costume category was sophomore Tyson Hamner as hand sanitizer. The runner-up was sophomore Tucker Lillie as Pickle Rick.
The winners for best group costume were juniors Alyssa Johnson, Lucy Mitchem, Ashlyn Turnbo, Karis Price and Gracie Storey dressed as the Care Bears. The runners-up were seniors Blaise Pierson and Devon Schueller dressed as blind referees.
The winners and runners-up each received candy for their costumes.
