Elmira High School Offers College Financial Aid Night to Students and Family

Elmira High School will host a financial aid night on Wednesday to help students and guardians with funding their college education.

The event will be from 5-7 p.m in the EHS library where any questions that seniors may have can be answered. The event will be very individualized and hands-on with the expectation that parents and students can use the time to fill out applications and ask for help if needed.

It is being held in the evening to accommodate parents and guardians who wish to attend, but students are also welcome and, ideally, both will come.

ASPIRE access specialist Nomi Pearce will be available at the event to answer any inquiries regarding the FAFSA and college scholarships.

Pearce has experience with troubleshooting and helping people with unique circumstances that can make applying for financial aid more complex. EHS counselors Court Wirth and Britanny McMillan will also be at the event and will be assisting with the basics of applying,

“People are sometimes surprised at how quickly they can complete some of these applications,” Wirth said. “FAFSA can be done in 10-25 minutes for most families. Oregon Promise is even easier.”

The counselor described how much work could be done at the event.

“It is very possible to start and finish the FAFSA and another application of some kind if they come for an hour or more,” the counselor said. “It’s drop-in, but people should try to be there by 6-6:15 at the latest if they can.”

A similar event will be held during the school day on February 18 just for seniors. Pearce will also attend this event to assist any seniors who require more help or did not get the chance to meet with her previously.
