The Powder Puff flag football game is back at Elmira High School. After a break from the competition in 2023, the senior and junior girls are going head to head once again this Friday.
Due to player injuries after the 2022 Powder Puff game, the game had been shut down in 2023 by the school. There was also a lack of staff members to help organize the event.
The gates will open at 6 p.m. with kick-off at 6:30 p.m. The price of entry is $5 per person, with a family price option of 2 adults and up to 4 kids for $20. There will be concessions served at the game, including hamburgers and hot dogs.
Powder Puff is being sponsored by the Booster Club and Grad Night Committee and is hosted as a fundraiser for the class of 2025 grad night.
Senior head coach Jon Guldager is expecting success from the team come game time.
“We’ve put them in places to be successful as long as they show up on game night with the mental attitude to win and put the juniors back in their place,” Guldager said.
The senior coach praised the work put in by the team.
“The girls have really dedicated themselves for the most part and have been willing to learn,” he said. “This is probably the funnest group of girls I’ve coached in Powder Puff.”
The juniors have been arrogant leading into the match-up, overstating their abilities when Falcon News reached out for comment.
“We are gonna win. Watch that deep ball, baby,” junior student coach Eben Dickinson said. “We’ll let our actions speak, and let our plays speak.”
EHS will see how much those plays speak when the seniors silence the juniors with pick-sixes off those deep throw attempts.
The winning roster for the Powder Puff game will be seniors Layla Burgess, Caily Eden, Josey Robbins, Jayden Breaux, Ananda Puff, Kiara Tierce, Allison Payne, Brooke Davis, Akela Buckland, Katie Kilcullen, Isabella Turtura, Lindsay Cordell, Hannah Humphrey and Grace Manley.
The junior roster for the Powder Puff game will be Lily Admire, Lourdes Escobar-Rodriguez, Caydence Farrar, Ashlyn Inman, Caetlyn Lillie, Rylee Rice, Madilyn Stockinger, Abigail Taubr, Alaina Tidwell, Audrey Varozza, Emily Weston and Hannah Yaskovic.
