One of Elmira High School’s foreign exchange students this year is 17-year-old Lukas Korsten.

Korsten is here from Cologne, Germany. He loves to play football and got to play on Elmira High School’s varsity football team as a defensive back and wide receiver.
Korsten was asked what he likes about football at Elmira High School.
“There is a game every Friday,” he said. “In Germany we had four game days in one year and then practice every day.”
He expressed his appreciation of Oregon’s scenery.
“I like the nature of Oregon and all of the greenery,” Korsten said.
Korsten misses many things from Germany, mainly the schnitzel because it is his favorite food back home.
His favorite place to eat here is the food carts in Veneta. Korsten really likes the food from Morelos, one of the food carts.
The exchange student spends his Saturdays here watching college football and Sundays having a homemade brunch with his host family. Back home, Korsten used to spend his weekends playing video games and hanging out with his friends after all of his homework was done.
Korsten likes the school system here better because he has a lot more classes back home during the school year, and he says this year is easier than previous years back home.
Korsten mentioned that if he were to go anywhere for a trip, he would want to travel back to New York City because it was cool and exciting the first time.
He is really looking forward to his future.
“I want to be in the military or move to Austria,” Korsten told Falcon News.
He would love to live in Austria because it’s his favorite place that he’s traveled to so far. He enjoyed all of the scenery, mainly the mountains, which he likes a lot when he travels.
