The Elmira High School Boys Varsity soccer team held their home opener against the #5 Riverdale Mavericks in a 5-1 defeat on Tuesday.
The Falcons played their first game on Sept. 5th against the Delphian Dragons in a narrow 2-2 draw making their current record 0-1-1.
Foreign exchange student Lennox Werheid scored both goals in the draw against Delphian and junior Wyatt Frome scored in the 1-5 defeat against Riverdale.
Senior team captain Kainoa Harwood expressed his hopefulness for the season.
“We have lots of potential, we just have to play as a team, calmly,” he told Falcon News.
Junior Kharsin Vantha expressed his excitement for his second season with the team.
“I’m looking forward to our future games,” Vantha said. “I think we’ll play really well and have a good shot at playoffs.”
Senior Evan Booth shared his thoughts on how the team can achieve success.
“I feel like we will succeed once we get our rhythm,” he said.
The boys play their next 4 games at home, with the first being on Monday at 4 p.m. against Milo Adventist Academy.
