Elmira girls soccer is starting off strong in their first two weeks, going 2-2, putting them high in the 3A rankings at #16.
They lost a hard-fought battle against Pleasant Hill on Sept. 2, losing 1-3. They came back strong to beat non-league opponent Western Christian Sept. 4, ending 4-3.
These games kicked off the Falcons’ first week of soccer.
The Falcons went 4-10 last year in league and ended #31 in the OSAA rankings. Seeing the team having a strong start to this new season is exciting for the Falcons. The team is currently ranked #16 in 3A for the state, but have been eyeing that top 10 list.
The Falcons graduated four seniors last year and have five seniors filling in their roles this year. Layla Burgess, Grace Manley, Ananda Puff, Isa Turtura and Mele Turtura are looking to step up and fill in those experienced senior positions.
They are third in their league in goals scored with 10, and are fourth place in their league behind Pleasant Hill, Creswell and Central Linn.
The Falcons’ next game will be Wednesday at the Elmira High School against the #33 ranked Siuslaw Vikings. The game will begin at 4:30 p.m.
