After the district championship at Sisters High School on Thursday and Friday, the Elmira track and field team has several athletes advancing to the state competition.
The Falcon boys team finished second overall and the girls placed fifth.
The athletes advancing include district champion 800m runner senior Iris Frome.
“I’m going to try my best and get on the podium,” Frome told Falcon News.
Senior Austyn Woolcott will be competing in the most events out of Elmira athletes. Woolcott will be in the 200m, 400m, 4x100m relay, and the 4x400m relay.
The senior says he hopes to do well.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Woolcott said.
Junior Jude Carmen, who competed at state for cross country in the fall, will be running the 3000m.
“I will try my best to PR,” Carmen said, “and try to get top eight and keep pace with them to get on the podium.”
Senior Lillian Ossowski will be the only thrower going to state, qualifying in javelin.
The senior thrower has confidence going into her event.
“I think I’m going to do well,” she said. “and try to get on podium because I’m currently ranked ninth.”
Senior hurdler David Bay will be competing in the 110m high hurdles.
The hurdler said he will try his best.
“I think I’m gonna excel and break my own PR,” Bay told Falcon News.
Sophomore Rylee Rice will be competing in high jump at state for the first time.
Rice told Falcon News that she is trying to stay calm heading into the competition.
“I’m trying not to go into it stressed because it’s my first time,” she said. “I’m only a sophomore, so there will be other opportunities.”
Other EHS athletes who qualified for state are:
- Junior Kyler Collwell in the 100m, 4x100m, and 4x400m
- Sophomore Ezariyah Dupper in the 100m and 4x100m
- Sophomore Ava Greene for the 100m and 4x100m
- Ninth-grader Petra Archer in the 110m hurdles and 4x100m
- Junior Kainoa Harwood for the 4x100m and 4x400m
- Ninth-grader Rainee Foltz in the 4x100m
- Senior Quinton Buckland in the 4x400m
- Junior Carter Lawrence as a 4x400m alternate
- Sophomore Kharsin Vanhtah as a 4x100m alternate
- Junior Kiara Tierce as a 4x100m alternate
