Elmira wrestlers made appearances at the Oregon state tournament at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland on Feb. 22 and 23.
Senior Brett Highburger, who finished as state champion last season, competed at 285 pounds. He had four matches, three of which were second-round pins, including his final match. One bout was a first-round pin.
Highburger now has back-to-back state titles.
“After I won my second state title,” Highburger told Falcon News, “I was thrilled and excited.”
Ninth-grader Jonah Cooper competed at 215 and ended with a sixth-place finish.
Other state qualifiers who competed were seniors June Highburger at 170 and Summer McKeen at 125, sophomores Ashton Archer at 113 and Ryan Pew at 175, and ninth-grader Tucker Christiance at 190.
