The Elmira wrestling team hosted an intra-squad meet on Nov. 29, then went on the road at Cascade High School for the annual Perry Burlison wrestling tournament on Dec. 2.
The intra-squad meet helped kick off the season for the Falcons as the first tournament of the season.
The Falcons hosted 20 matches, 10 of which were challenge matches for a varsity spot.
The Falcons came out of the Perry Burlison tournament with one champion and three placers: senior Brett Highburger at heavyweight with 1st place, senior Summer McKeen at 130 with 4th place, ninth-grader Haedyn Hill at 115 with fourth place and senior June Highburger at 190 for 5th place.
After the tournament at Cascade, the Falcons got ready for the following weekend at the North Bend Army Coast Classic. They held a tough two-day tournament with 32-man brackets for the boys and 16-man brackets for the girls.
As it was a tough tournament for the Falcons, they managed to have two placers. Brett Highburger at heavyweight got second place after losing to fellow state champion, Logan Clayburn from 2A school Myrtle Point. June Highburger at 190 got 5th place.
This week, the Falcons went on the road to Sweet Home for a five-way dual vs Sweet Home, Cascade, Stayton, and Newport.
On Saturday, the Falcons go to Stayton High School for SCTC duals.
